The release of the B-Hive 2017 briefs is just a couple of weeks away.

We know it's extra work to do.

And we know you're all busy with other coursework.

But if there's one message we can give you about getting in to this industry - whether it's Advertising, PR, Marketing, or Design - it's that those people who are proactive and do that little extra than their peers, will be the ones that stand out and get ahead after graduation. If not before.

If that's not enough and you're still in two minds regarding whether you should enter, then maybe a few words from previous winners will help motivate you...

"These placements have given me such invaluable experiences and encounters with some amazing people. I have learnt so much already and I’m really excited to learn more. Looking back, my anxious feelings were pointless. Nobody expects you to have all the right answers, because sometimes they don’t know it themselves. And the people I had the privilege to work with were always willing to help and talk.

"I felt like I cheated, being handed these placements. I know that they aren’t the easiest thing to get, especially at so many great agencies. That is why B-Hive is so rewarding; you don’t just win a title, which doesn’t mean much at the end of the day, but they help you get your foot in the door, with real industry experience. It has opened so many doors for me and has lead me to a full time job.

A big thank you to B-Hive and for all the agencies that had me. I would defiantly encourage students to enter B-Hive"

“There is no other competition that offers you a foot in the door quite so easily. Winning B-Hive and getting the chance to work and network at real agencies is a fantastic experience. In many ways, I believe it could prove more beneficial to a student or graduate than winning a more prestigious design or advertising award. It really does create a lot of opportunities.”

“After 2 years of really struggling to get on the career ladder it was the B-Hive scheme that really helped me get where I wanted to be. I am eternally grateful to you for coming up with the genius idea and think it’s an extremely important scheme – I am a very passionate advocate for it!”

“It's been a mad few months but an amazing experience that I have gained so much from, not only gaining skills and experience working alongside some super talented people/agencies, but I have also had some amazing offers from several of the companies, including sponsorship through university as well as permanent job offers... B-Hive has set me on the path for my dream career!”

“I am going into my third month of full-time work as Rewired's newest Account Exec. I absolutely love it here and enjoy the job so much. I would never have established the contacts that I have, or had the opportunities I have been given if it wasn't for B-Hive. I have basically been able to graduate and walk straight into a great job because of the internship that I did. I just wanted to say thank you and that I really appreciate what B-Hive has done for me.”

“I am now a permanent member of the Big Cat team. It wouldn’t have been possible without B-Hive. I was also invited for an interview at WAA and was offered further experience at Seal so it seems that participating in B-Hive really holds authority.”

“I was able to gain a set of core skills which will remain with me for the rest of my life. I think people assume that London is the place to be for PR, however this is definitely not the case. Birmingham has a wealth of fantastic creative firms that hold some of the country’s biggest accounts - in 2 months alone I dealt with one of the biggest energy companies, a music agency and a large fashion organisation.”

“Don’t think twice about entering, just do it. The experience and advice you receive whilst on placements is priceless. In my opinion, it’s the perfect way to start your career and learn about the industry. Not forgetting, it also looks great on your CV!”

“Just go for it! The presentation itself is great experience even if you don’t progress to the next stage. It gives you the confidence to pursue your own ideas and it is also helpful to know how the professionals react to them. The whole process has increased my confidence and reassured me that this is the career for me!”
